The WVDA Board would like to welcome our newly elected Board members for 2011-2012. The following positions were elected:

March 10, 2011

Dietitians and interns from throughout the state met at the state capital on Monday for the annual WVDA Day at the Legislature. Richard McGinnis made a table display near the Rotunda. Dietitians met with their delegates then with Governor Earl Ray Tomblin for the signing of the proclamation of National Nutrition Month and National Dietitian Day. WVDA President Kendra Stoen was interviewed by Channel 3. After the proclamation, Dietitians and special guests, which included CEOs of area hospitals, gathered at the home of Helen Lodge for a luncheon. It is time to elect the 2012 WVDA Board candidates for the following positions: President-elect, Secretary, and Chair-elect of the Council on Professional Issues (COPI-elect). Voting will begin today Monday, February 21, 2011 and conclude on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. All current members of the Association are eligible to participate in the elections. The West Virginia Dietetic Association will be electing the following Board positions for 2011-2012: President-elect, Secretary, and Chair-elect of the Council on Professional Issues (COPI-elect).

Please note, the President-elect must have been a member of the Board within three years immediately preceding the term as President-elect. Officers may hold only one elected office at a time.

If you are interested in running for one of these positions, or if you would like to nominate another member, please contact Amy Gannon (WVDA Nominating Chair) at amy.gannonRD@gmail.com. Nominations for each position will be accepted until February 17, 2011. For a brief description of each position, Click Here.

President-Elect
The President-elect will serve for one year and at the close of the current fiscal year, after election, will automatically become President of the Association. The President-elect will:

  • Become acquainted with all the duties of the President and other officers.
  • Become familiar with the duties of each committee.
  • Perform the functions of President in the absence of the President.
  • Serve as a member of the Finance and Advisory Committees.
  • Appoint, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee co-chairs of committees who will serve as chair during the President-elect's term as President.
  • Serve as alternate delegate.
  • Support the President in leading the Association toward its strategic direction and values.
  • Present a written proposal for the strategic plan and budget for term as President for approval by the Board.

Secretary
The Secretary will serve for two years. The Secretary will:

  • Attend all meetings of the membership, Board and Executive Committee.
  • Be responsible for having the minutes of all proceedings of each meeting recorded and on file.
  • Keep up to date the official files of the names, residences, and professional affiliations of each of the members of the Association.
  • Mail the official ballot according to Article VIII, Sections 2F and 4.
  • Issue the call for all meetings of the membership, Board and Executive Committee as directed by the President.
  • Notify promptly all candidates of election results.
  • Have any and all other powers and duties usually vested in the office of Secretary.

Chair-elect of the Council on Professional Issues (COPI-elect)
The Chair-elect of the Council on Professional Issues will serve for one year and at the close of the current fiscal year, after election, will automatically become the Chair of the Council on Professional Issues (plans the annual professional development meeting). The Chair-elect will:

  • Become acquainted with the duties of the Chair of the Council on Professional Issues.
  • Serve as chair of any Council on Professional Issues that may be formed.
  • Assist with the organization of any Dietetic Practice Group that wishes to organize.

2011 Future Connections-Summit on Dietetics Practice, Credentialing, and Education

Where would you like dietetics practice, credentialing and education to be in the year 2021? What are future practice roles for dietetics practitioners? These are questions that members will answer during 2011 Future Connections-Summit on Dietetics Practice, Credentialing and Education scheduled for March 24-26, 2011. The Summit intends to create a shared vision and recommendations about a future direction for dietetics practice, credentialing and education. During the Summit, participants will have an opportunity for dialogue, consideration of expert opinions, and critical assessment of our past, present and future. In order to maximize participation, the Summit will be conducted using seven regional sites. A limited number of participants will be selected for each regional site. The Summit registration fee is $300 which includes meal functions and participant materials. MORGANTOWN — When summer school begins at West Virginia University, the customer count at the Health Sciences Center Cafeteria increases after a short break. Students comprise about 15 percent of the 1,600 daily customers with staff, faculty and some visitors making up the rest.
